AGWA Sessions at COP28

The 2023 Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, more commonly known as COP28, was the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference. COP28 UAE took place from 30 November to 12 December 2023 at Expo City, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. AGWA was proud to participate in many events throughout the UNFCCC climate conference. Water Action Agenda & Climate Plans

This session tackles the questions of how to combine acceleration of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and climate adaptation and mitigation?


Water for Net Zero Day: Opening Session

Representatives from each of the hosts offer brief remarks and overview background on the importance of water’s consideration in net zero goals and the water sector’s movement to net zero.


Accelerating climate-resilient water management approaches through the circular economy

This session will discuss the importance of climate resilient water management in the context of investing in circular economy to achieve sustainable water management for municipal, industrial, and agricultural users and the natural environment.


COP28: Enhancing National Climate Resilience through Capacity: The CASTT Adaptation Academy

This COP28 event highlights the Adaptation Academy’s value in building a community of practice among national adaptation focal points and others involved in climate programs. Takeaways from the first two years of the capacity-building program were featured, as well as the sharing of opportunities for country ministries and individuals to participate in future training.

High-level Reflections: Innovation to Action

During the high-level session on Knowledge, Technology, and Innovation Day at the COP28 Water Pavilion, government representatives came together to reflect on the innovations necessary to enhance their climate resilience.


Water for Net Zero: Enabling a Resilient Clean Energy Transition

This session showcases new research and demonstrates the value of mainstreaming water in energy planning, highlighting key risks and opportunities for resilient low-emission energy development.


Nature's Wealth: Bridging economic resilience with water and biodiversity

This session covers the interconnected relationship between water resilience, biodiversity and economic stability. Topics presented will also cover the indispensable role of biodiversity and nature in safeguarding our planet's health and human well-being, and the synergy between water and nature, showcasing how healthy ecosystems contribute to clean water resources.

Closing session: Achieving the Global Goal on Adaptation

Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns, mainly caused by human activities, especially the burning of fossil fuels.


Young Professionals' Debate: Shaping the Future

A highlight of the Water Pavilion, the Young Water Professionals’ debate was a lively discussion between our enthusiastic future leaders and recognized senior experts.


Bridging the investment gap: fetching financing sources

The objective of this workshop is to enhance the understanding of potential sources of financing, identify required support and discuss the way forward to tap into these sources.
