AGWA joins global networks to advance water agenda

The Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (AGWA) has become a UN-Water Partner, joining over 80 international organisations and UN Agencies in a collaborative effort to advance the global water agenda. UN-Water coordinates the United Nations’ work on water and sanitation focused on three key areas: Informing policy processes and addressing emerging issues, supporting monitoring and reporting on water and sanitation and building knowledge and inspiring action.

AGWA has played a key role in developing and mainstreaming climate resilience practices, particularly in water management since its establishment in 2010. Our programs bridge both technical and policy areas, integrating methodologies that advance the global water and climate agenda. AGWA has already contributed to the UN-Water Expert Group on Water and Climate Change and continues to play an important role in advancing the integration of water management into global climate strategies.

We’re excited to help mobilize the AGWA network to more formally support UN Water through our vision of managing water for social, ecological, and economic resilience in a time of rapid change. We’ve known for a long time that water is a threat and risk multiplier. The world needs water — and UN Water collectively — to become our resilience multiplier.
— John Matthews, Executive Director of the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (AGWA)

In addition to global networks, the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (AGWA) has also joined Water Europe, an organization dedicated to fostering a Water-Smart Society across all levels of governance in Europe. This membership comes at a significant time as the European Union develops its Water Resilience Strategy and Implementation Plan, presenting a valuable opportunity for AGWA to play a more active role in supporting the emergence of resilience throughout the continent.

Water Europe’s mission to promote water security, sustainability, and resilience in Europe and beyond is strategically aligned with AGWA’s commitment to building a water-resilient world. We are excited by this opportunity to learn from and collaborate with new individuals, institutions, and governments working to realize a shared vision for the future of water.
