AGWA Needs Your Help for Effective Climate Action Today – and for Tomorrow

AGWA was the world’s first organization to recognize the connection between water and climate action, and we’ve made that synergy the center of our work for more than 15 years. What seemed like a crazy idea then now seems like foresight.

We’ve had profound impacts on both the climate change and water communities – governance, engineering, ecology and hydrology, policy and economics. We have influenced billions globally and changed the direction of international policy. But our best indicator of success has been through you – our members network. Serving you with insights and tools, and in turn seeing the transformation you’ve been making in your work, day in and day out.

Today, the complexity of global threats presents us with new opportunities for engagement – and new risks for us as an institution.

AGWA is in the early stages of forming an independent sister organization registered in the European Union (EU) to open AGWA to new partnerships and opportunities for climate resilience programming — both within Europe and globally.

We also need to ensure that if our climate work comes under duress in North America, we can continue our programs, maintain our mission, and ensure the longevity of our operations and impact through the EU entity.

The threats are real but uncertain, both in timing and extent, prompting us to prepare for a possible storm. Today, we’re asking for your support to help us build an EU AGWA as a lifeboat and as a new springboard for climate action.

Indeed, with 2024 marking the hottest year on record, the human, financial, and environmental costs of climate inaction are rapidly escalating. The UN reported that extreme weather displaced over 800,000 people in 2024. In the US alone, 2025 has already seen unprecedented financial damage from climate disasters. The human faces of those impacts globally have no monetary value.

Our ambition must rise to meet this growing crisis and ensure that communities don’t just survive, but thrive. That’s been AGWA’s mission from the beginning.

To match the expanding scope of the climate crisis and meet the increasing demand for AGWA’s expertise, we are redoubling our efforts to grow AGWA and expand our footprint. We hope that you can support this growth with a financial contribution to AGWA.

A final thought: AGWA is a network, three thousand people strong. Not everyone who needs our support – our insights, our tools, the ability to hop onto a call – can afford it. Your donation, along with your continued engagement, supports AGWA’s operations, core initiatives, and climate resilience priorities worldwide. As we expand our work to meet ever-increasing crises with solutions, your contributions support our efforts to improve water resilience globally.

We are grateful to have you alongside us as we work to build a more climate-resilient, water-wise world, and we truly appreciate your continued support as AGWA grows as an organization.

Thank you,
