Accepting Nominations for AGWA Board of Directors 2026-2029 Term
AGWA is now accepting nominations for three openings on our Board of Directors. Vacancies are for the next three-year cycle running from 2026–2029, beginning with the upcoming Annual Members Meeting on 22 August 2026. Board positions are unpaid and volunteer-based and provide a vital service to the AGWA network. We seek high-minded individuals who are interested in guiding the future of the water and climate communities in a time of dramatic social, economic, and political change, in a challenging financial environment. Water resilience is not for wimps!
With the current openings, we are particularly looking to strengthen our capacity in a few key areas. These include:
Fundraising experience, especially with philanthropies and the private sector
Improving operations and decision making for a growing, evolving global organization
Networking in regions currently under-engaged by AGWA, such as the Middle East and Asia
Historically, most nominees have a strong background in water resources and/or climate adaptation and resilience
Eligibility
Nominations can be for any individual who is willing to support AGWA’s vision and mission while meeting the requirements of the Board position (see Terms of Reference here). Membership in AGWA is not a requirement. There is no age limit. Board Members are expected to actively support AGWA’s governance, participating in the majority of Board Meetings throughout the year, serving on committees, and providing as-needed input to the Executive Director, staff, and Strategic Advisory Council.
Nominations
AGWA members can nominate candidates, or individuals can self-nominate. Nominees are asked to submit the following materials:
A high-resolution headshot photo
The nomination form that includes:
Short biography (250 words)
Brief vision statement about your intended contribution to the Board and AGWA
A current CV
We highly recommend that nominees reach out to current members of the Board and senior AGWA staff to get a realistic sense of how we work and some of the challenges we face now and are likely to face over the next few years.
Nomination packets can be submitted to AGWA using secretariat@alliance4water.org with the following subject line: “Nomination for AGWA Board of Directors.” For people nominating others, please share the contact details of the nominee so that we can collect the required materials.
Portions of the materials above will be used in the voting packet distributed to members.
