AGWA at UNFCCC COP28

UNFCCC COP28 Overview

The 28th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be hosted by the United Arab Emirates from 30 November to 12 December in Dubai. COP28 serves as the formal meeting of the UNFCCC parties (i.e., countries) to negotiate and agree action on how to tackle climate change, limit emissions, and halt global warming.

This year marks an important milestone: the first Global Stocktake (GST) of the Paris Agreement. This is an opportunity to track collective progress to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement and to discuss implications of the findings on how to unlock more ambitious climate action and support.

Water at COP28

The COP President Designate from the UAE recently released a letter outlining overall priorities for COP28, you can read the letter here. Water will once again be featured in the COP Presidency agenda, on the official Food, Agriculture, and Water Day (10 December) and across other days including Energy (4 December), Finance (5 December), and Multilevel Action (6 December).
